Business Central 25
Since its launch in 2018, Microsoft has twice a year released a new upgraded version of Business Central. The two upgrades are released in connection with the Dynamics 365 release wave upgrade waves, where the many new features and improvements are rolled out from April to October and from October to April.
With Dynamics 365 2024 release wave 2, Microsoft releases Business Central 25 in October, where a large number of new functions and options are introduced, including an optimization of the AI capacity Copilot.

Dynamics 365 Copilot improvements
Powered by next-generation AI technology, Microsoft Copilot in Dynamics 365 Business Central introduces entirely new capabilities that enable business users to streamline workflows, increase productivity, and free up resources for strategic and creative work.
In Business Central 25, Microsoft has again improved the AI capability Copilot
Copilot is continuously updated by Microsoft and the functionality is therefore constantly expanded. In this way, users in different roles and with different tasks constantly get new opportunities to increase productivity and eliminate boring tasks.
Also with Business Central 25, Microsoft has a special focus on the AI-based Dynamics 365 Copilot. The upgrade of Copilot means that you get help to optimize a number of business processes so that you can carry out your work tasks efficiently and quickly.
The new features and improvements include:
Create sales orders from Chat
With Business Central 2024 release wave 2, with the help of Copilot it becomes possible to create sales orders directly from Chat. Microsoft will also invest in testing brand new Chat extensions aimed at helping Business Central users learn from third-party content.
Easy creation of product information
By using Dynamics 365 Copilot to create information such as variant, unit measurements (for example weight and dimensions) and other relevant information, with Business Central 25 it becomes even easier and faster to create product information.
GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code
For the Business Central AL developers who are already improving their productivity with the market-leading GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code development tools, improvements also await with the upcoming upgrade of Business Central. Business Central 25 enables developers to enhance application metadata with more detail to create a better Copilot experience.
Additional updates in BC 2024 release wave 2
In addition to the Business Central 365 Copilot upgrade, Microsoft is also bringing a number of other upgrades to Business Central.
In Business Central 25, Microsoft has again improved the AI capability Copilot
With the new enhancements, Microsoft helps companies automate a number of regulatory tasks and thus stay compliant with various government regulations and rules, allowing them to focus on their core business. In addition, the application's core functionality is expanded and the option to use installments on sales documents is added. Business Central users who conduct international business are supported by activating support for multiple VAT numbers.
Application improvements
In the e-document feature introduced in the 2023 release wave 2, Microsoft introduced even more options for sending electronic documents.
With the 2024 release wave 1 upgrade, Microsoft introduced integration between projects in Business Central and Dynamics 365 Field Service, and with the 2024 release wave 2, the integration is extended to also cover service orders in Business Central.
In order to help companies track their greenhouse gas emissions, Microsoft adds 25 additional sustainability reporting options with Business Central.
Countries and regions
Also with Business Central 25, the global availability is expanded, which means that with the upcoming upgrade, Business Central will be available to companies and business users in more than 170 countries and regions.
Development
With Business Central 2024 release 2, Microsoft is making further investments in business areas that increase the productivity and thus the efficiency of the developers working with GitHub, Visual Studio Code and the AppSource marketplace.
Business Central 25 adds new code refactoring capabilities, an easy and fast way to test functionality and performance as well as ISV (independent software vendor) and custom code with AL GO to GitHub.
Administration
In October, Microsoft will introduce additional self-service capabilities to Business Central, aimed at helping administrators manage access to different environments at a more in-depth level, as well as using the Microsoft 365 Audit Log to audit critical administrator actions. With customer-managed encryption keys and Azure Lockbox, the audit log in Business Central provides 25 new effective options to optimize the protection of users' data.
Compliance with legislation
With the Dynamics 365 2024 release wave 2 upgrade of Business Central, Microsoft continues to ensure that Business Central complies with local accounting laws. This means that Microsoft will make more improvements to the localized versions.
Reporting and data analysis
In Business Central 25, more than 70 Power BI reports are added and Microsoft continues to invest in the basic reporting capabilities of Business Central.
Platform and service
With Business Central 2024 release wave 2, Microsoft continues to invest in the basic service and app platform and, as usual, there has been a great focus for Microsoft on increasing the degree of availability and improving performance, stability, resource management, security and compliance.
